Unable to live or die due to certain circumstances, Koda Sumomo visits Auberge Gilda which is a five-minute walk from Cape Shide, a famous suicide spot. She listens to its owner Shiraishi Yuko and ends up working with the employee Koreeda Ibuki and chef Omori Zen for three months. Guests with all sorts of circumstances come to this auberge at the farthest reaches, including an actress being criticized for reports of an affair, and a man faced with divorce on the day he reached the mandatory retirement age. Through their stay at Auberge Gilda, they become aware of life and are revitalized. Seeing this with her own eyes, Sumomo also has a change of heart. However, she learns about Yuko’s secret.

Concierge Shuji Kitayama (Hishine Saku Toshihide) struggles to find a benefactor for guests Pascal Henry (Frederick Benoliel) and his wife Shizuko (Ishino Yoko). The sweets made by young pastry chef Yoshiyuki Sudo (Shunsuke Tanaka) are popular with guests, and popular writer Fuyuki Nakagami (David Ito) even stays just to enjoy them. Sudo has also decided to marry Minori Matsuoka (Rio Yamashita), and Minami Yamashita (Michiko Amekumi), who is in charge of bridal services, is busy preparing for her colleague's wedding.
Ryusei Takahashi is a young potter in Tobe, Ehime Prefecture, who pursues his own style. He takes part in a design contest for potters. Though Ryusei wins the contest, he is not familiar with the winning design. It turns out his daughter Moe applied for the design contest secretly using her father's name. Ryusei agonizes over the winning design, because he needs his father's help to create. His father is veteran potter Tatsumi Takahashi. Since his mother died, Ryusei and Tatsumi have been estranged.
Arimoto Hikari is a 32-year-old housewife. She has a husband and a son. One day, she visits her father Taizo who recently collapsed from overworking. Hikari Arimoto learns from a doctor that her father has 4 days left to live. Her father raised Hikari to one day run his company, instead of his now deceased son, but Hikari rebelled against her father and chose to become a housewife. Hikari now decides to run her father's company and announces her plans. Inspector Totsugawa of the First Investigation Division goes to Tsuruoka in Yamagata to attend the wedding of the son of Inspector Mukai, his former colleague who now works for the Yamagata Prefectural Police. While sightseeing at Mt. Haguro after the ceremony, he notices a young woman drawing him in her sketchbook. She introduces herself as Yuka Shiraishi and says she came to draw the Dewa Sanzan. Signing the drawing of Totsugawa next to the five-story pagoda with her initial, a 'Y' in the corner, she gives it to him as a present. The next morning, the corpse of a young woman who has been stabbed is discovered in a forest in Tsuruoka. When Totsugawa, on his way back, hears that a sketchbook signed with a 'Y' was found at the scene, he follows Mukai there. However, the body is not Yuka, the woman Totsugawa had met, and while no items pointing to her identity are found, the sketchbook is the same one Yuka had the day before.
