The two protagonists – an architect and a prisoner living in parallel realities in the present time and an ambiguous distanced past, respectively – conjure up imaginations and experiences of imprisonment. In their dialogue across space and time they debate the relations between humans, the world, and freedom. They talk of visible and invisible imprisonment, existentialism as a means of self-redemption, and at the same time question the relationship of humans to the space around them. An attempt at reconciliation with the world and human nature.

On their first day on the job together, they happen upon a massive arms cache belonging to notorious gangster Law Man-tat (Ng Man-tat). Soon afterwards, Chu's husband and son are murdered by mobland thugs. Looking for revenge, she goes undercover as a crime world lawyer, winning Law's trust. Yet when she tries to transfer some incriminating evidence onto a computer disc, she gets caught red handed. Chu is beaten and strapped to a bomb, while her abductors demand $10 million ransom. Meanwhile, Ling who fell for rakish detective Ng (Roy Cheung) is working on her own way to free Chu and get the baddies.
Valerie Chow plays Ling, an attractive young lass studying to be a stewardess. Ling struggles to maintain her studies while being harried by her rich, lecherous classmates and a powerful old man who is hell-bent on having her marry his geeky son (Yu Rongguang). Of course, she eventually meets hunky flight steward Chan Kai-ming (Moses Chan Ho) and true love blooms in the friendly skies.
Valerie Chow Kar-Ling is a former Hong Kong actress, fashion publicist and entrepreneur. She has starred in numerous films and several television series, most memorably in Wong Kar-wai's internationally acclaimed 1994 feature, Chungking Express, which earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 14th Hong Kong Film Awards. A former Miss Hong Kong runner-up (1991), she is also the first Chinese model to be signed by US cosmetics company Revlon in 1998. Since 2003, she has worked primarily as a fashion publicist and in 2010, opened Mama Kid, a children's designer concept store in Hong Kong. In 2018, she made a surprising return to acting, starring in the film Prison Architect by renowned Chinese visual artist Cao Fei. The film was commissioned by Tai Kwun, the Centre for Heritage and Arts in Hong Kong, and screened at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival as part of their Forum Expanded programme.
